Are you an experienced first opinion GP vet looking to work in a hospital environment with outstanding facilities, a collaborative team, and a strong focus on clinical development? This role at a leading RCVS-accredited veterinary hospital in South Wales offers a fantastic balance of GP practice with hospital-level resources, allowing you to work up cases fully and thrive in a supportive, progressive team.

Why This Role Stands Out

This is a first opinion GP role within a hospital setting, meaning you get the best of both worlds—continuity of care with your own clients, while also having access to specialist equipment, 24/7 inpatient care, and an ECC team. The environment actively encourages collaboration between GP and referral teams, allowing vets to manage cases thoroughly with hospital-level diagnostics and surgical facilities at their disposal.

  • 24/7 inpatient care with a dedicated team
  • CT Scanner & advanced ultrasonography
  • Endosurgery and minimally invasive surgery facilities
  • Extensive in-house blood analysis equipment (including TEG, blood gases)
  • Dedicated theatres for orthopaedic, soft tissue, and exotic surgery
  • Separate ECC wards
  • Dental suite, hydrotherapy, and physiotherapy services

The Role:

  • Salary up to £60,000 (pro rata, dependent on experience)
  • Full-time (part-time considered)
  • 4-day week with one 9-hour weekend shift every 5 weeks (Sat OR Sun)
  • One bank holiday shift per year
  • No on-call – fully staffed dedicated night service
  • Certificate study fully supported

Who We’re Looking For:

  • A confident, experienced GP vet looking for a hospital-based first opinion role
  • Someone who enjoys case continuity, working in a high-standard clinical environment
  • A team player who is happy to mentor and support colleagues
  • A vet who thrives in a progressive, well-equipped setting with access to advanced diagnostics

What’s On Offer?

  • 6.6 weeks holiday (inclusive of bank holidays) with the option to buy/sell leave
  • Sick pay – 2 weeks full pay, 4 weeks half pay
  • £1,750 CPD budget & 5 days CPD leave
  • VDS & RCVS fees covered
  • Two additional professional memberships paid (e.g. BSAVA)
  • 50% off veterinary services and cost-price products
  • Enhanced maternity/paternity cover
  • Paid volunteering day
  • Health insurance & life insurance
  • Relocation allowance available (for direct applicants)
  • Cycle to Work Scheme & employee discounts
