Lloyd & Cowan is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Lead Veterinarian to join a progressive, high-quality veterinary hospital. This role is pivotal in developing and maintaining an efficient and effective medical team while fostering trust, teamwork, and accountability. The Lead Veterinarian will collaborate closely with the Hospital Manager and report directly to the Regional Manager.

Position Overview:
The Lead Veterinarian will provide exceptional medical care, client communication, and team leadership. The role includes clinical duties, strategic planning, and operational management to ensure the highest standards of patient care and hospital efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Comprehensive Patient Care:

  • Conduct thorough patient examinations, including history-taking, physical assessments, and diagnostics.
  • Develop and implement tailored treatment plans, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.
  • Record findings and diagnostics using the SOAP format, adhering to AAHA guidelines.

Client Communication & Education:

  • Communicate diagnoses, prognoses, and treatment recommendations clearly and empathetically.
  • Provide updates on hospitalized patients and respond to client inquiries promptly.
  • Ensure clients understand treatment costs and follow discharge instructions.

Surgery & Procedures:

  • Perform pre-op evaluations, diagnostics, and surgical procedures with precision and care.
  • Collaborate with technicians on preparation and post-operative care.
  • Share diagnostic results and interpretations with clients, ensuring clarity and transparency.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Mentor and train veterinary staff, fostering a positive and productive workplace culture.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and hospital management to promote team efficiency.
  • Monitor staff performance and provide constructive feedback for professional growth.

Operational & Financial Oversight:

  • Assist in managing inventory, controlled substances, and resource allocation.
  • Estimate and communicate costs accurately, ensuring alignment with hospital guidelines.
  • Participate in strategic planning, marketing initiatives, and client issue resolution.

Continuing Education & Professional Development:

  • Stay current on advancements in veterinary medicine through continuing education.
  • Share knowledge with colleagues and support staff training programs.
  • Lead discussions during staff meetings and contribute to professional development initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • DVM degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Active veterinary license and DEA registration.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ veterinary experience, including team leadership.
  • Strong clinical knowledge, surgical skills, and a commitment to high-quality care.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and mentorship skills.

Position Knowledge & Skills Requirements:

  • Ability to manage a physically demanding workload, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Confidence and professionalism in managing patients experiencing stress or pain.
  • Business acumen to understand hospital management and financial strategies.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary: $115,000–$130,000 USD annually.
