An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and friendly Veterinary Surgeon to join a close-knit, mixed practice team in the Scottish Borders. This role primarily focuses on small animals with a component of farm on-call. The position is ideal for a vet who values a positive work-life balance and thrives in a supportive, family-feel environment.

The team takes a fair share of surgery and consulting duties, with special interests and preferences actively encouraged. Regular feedback and an open, honest management style ensure an excellent working environment for everyone.

About the Practice

This well-established mixed practice combines a solid farm base with an expanding companion animal caseload. The main site is equipped with advanced facilities, including:

  • DR x-ray and dental x-ray.
  • New ultrasound.
  • Bronchoscopy and gastroscopy.
  • Multi-parameters.

The large animal unit is purpose-built, featuring:

  • Two Easi-scan ultrasound scanners.
  • Bull and tup fertility testing equipment.
  • In-house hospitalisation facilities, including a calf warmer.
  • All standard equipment needed for beef, sheep, camelid, and goat work (no equine and minimal dairy).

The practice also provides pool cars, so your personal vehicle stays smell-free!

About You

  • A friendly, team-oriented veterinary surgeon with good communication skills.
  • Comfortable handling companion animals, with some experience in farm work.
  • Keen to work collaboratively and develop areas of special interest.

On-Call and Working Pattern

  • Shared out-of-hours rota supported by a dedicated nurse.
  • No routine weekend consulting.
  • Friday off after a weekend on-call.
