A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join a modern and progressive veterinary hospital in Leeds.

This role is perfect for someone looking to balance first-opinion general practice with advanced hospitalisation, referral work, and the support of certificate-holding vets.

The Role
This full-time position offers a 35-40 hour, 4-day workweek with a structured rota, including:

  • One general surgery shift.
  • One consulting shift (30-minute consults for sick pets).
  • Two evening inpatient/Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) shifts (3:00 pm–10:00 pm).
  • One in four weekend ECC Shifts (Saturday and Sunday, no sole charge).

The role focuses on managing complex day patients, handling hospitalisation cases, and supporting the out-of-hours team with advanced procedures.

About the Practice
This purpose-built hospital boasts state-of-the-art equipment, including:

  • IDEXX laboratory, digital X-ray, and ultrasound with Doppler.
  • Endoscopy, laparoscopy, and tonometry tools.
  • Orthopaedic surgical kit and advanced dental equipment with X-ray.
  • Multiparameter monitors, ECG, transfusion medicine, and more.

The hospital operates to gold-standard care, supported by a collaborative and friendly team of over 70 staff members, including 13 day vets, three night vets, and dedicated nurse and VCA teams.

Key Responsibilities
The ideal candidate should be dynamic and proactive, with strong medical and surgical skills. ECC experience is preferred. Common tasks during evening inpatient/ECC shifts include:

  • Procedures like oesophageal tube placements, chest drains, urinary catheters, and TFAST/AFAST scans.
  • Performing surgeries such as caesareans, pyometras, and exploratory laparotomies.
  • Managing advanced medicine cases, including Addisonian crises, ketoacidotic diabetics, and severe pancreatitis.
